Hi everyone! Due to the Oscars being last Sunday, every news portal is filled with plenty of articles about them. Not only cinema lovers, but many people around the globe care for this event and watch it. And the fact that the Oscars are so important and have such repercussion, immediately leads out to controversy. Of course when you have such a wide audience, you can never please everyone, but the issue we're discussing today is major, because the Oscars are not only pleasing few people, they're leaving many others out of the picture.
So here's something never before seen: me talking about feminism. But it goes further, this is about diversity, or the lack thereof in this case. This BBC article discusses the topic in deep https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-51441309
When awards of this magnitude decide to ignore diversity, it is a sign that we, as a society, aren't moving forward, and for this reason I thought this topic would be of your concern.
So I want to know your opinion about it! Why to you think the Oscars have been so non-diverse this year? Do you think that it's about their decisions or maybe about the lack of Oscar-deserving women director/ black actors? Do you believe women director/ black actors have the same opportunities in the cinema world in the first place?
Let me know and don't be shy, share your thoughts, I'm looking forward to reading it!
